This module is the one that I least look forward to. However this year I have enjoyed doing context of practice as I fill have pushed myself, done new thing and it been a subject that I enjoy looking into. The question I chose to do this year was a subject I think about a lot, it affects everyone as is all around us. I always thought the brand wears us but I didn’t know why, by looking into the elements that create a brand I finally do understand. I have learnt lots from doing this question and I have learnt things that I can apply to my own work now when working on a project to do with branding. I have really pushed myself with this essay working hard on my writing skills and I feel I have improve a lot since first year defiantly more confident with it . I found my subject interesting so I hope the reader enjoys my view on the question. The practical part of this was defiantly the high light of this module got very lucky that Supreme was releasing the most desirable item when about to start this project. Going down to the release gave me an insight it to the Supreme community and how amazing it is to see thousands of people queuing for clothing. This really did help me prove that the brand wears you, the practical and essay perfectly together. The magazine came out really well i got some great images and some really good interviews that I hope who ever reads it get the sense of how crazy it was that day.

From doing the practical it gave me the opportunity to do something I have never done before, interviewing people. I was lucky because everyone was up for being interviewed and it was something I enjoyed doing and want to try and do again in extended practice. Also from making the magazine I have came across a skill I would like to do more scanning in objects, the bank note came out really well. Thats my only regret with the magazine I should of used that more and used real roses on the 1^st page. Overall I feel I have achieved everything that I want to do with this module I pushed myself and learnt some new skills. I feel my time management could have been improved on the blogging side. I defiantly need to keep on top of that in the other modules to make the process easier. Other than that my time management was good I got my practical done in plenty of time and bound my dissertation on that day that was suggested. Also having the regular tutorials and taking about the essay created a lot more ideas and made the process a little bit easier. The feedback helped a lot also making sure I was still going down the right way about my essay. They were a big help in this module.

This module has proven that to enjoy a brief you need make it work around you. If you enjoy the subject its going make it more fun to do and work harder for it.

OUGD601 - Context of Practice 3 The link between essay and practical

Looking at my essay I needed a brand that is successful in all the elements I’m looking into brand identity, image, equity and phycology. What better brand than Supreme, a brand that is successful in these areas on an extreme level. Customers queuing for hours when they release clothing on a Thursday, the costumers are obsessed with the brand. Lucky for me the most desirable item the box logo was coming out in December. This was perfect opportunity to do the practical. The idea was to create a publication that showcased images from the release and interviews with questions relating to my essay question ‘Do we wear the or does the brand wear us?’ From the interviews I got some really good content that links perfectly with the essay which aloud me to include some of these in my essay. Everyone at Supreme was really open and wanted their photograph taken and to be interview with me, them being so open gave me some really detailed and personal answers, which is what I wanted. The images I took at Supreme shows the reader how crazy the day was and how determined these ‘brand fans’ are just to get an item of clothing. I feel my essay and practical link perfectly together and clearly link. The practical almost proves my conclusion of my essay that the brand wears us and we are controlled by the brand.

The final practical piece came out really well exactly how I wanted it to. And the started I want something that was bold, clean and standout. I feel I have defiantly achieved this from cover to cover this magazine contains powerful images that show how obsessed people can get with a brand and how determined they are to get an item of clothing. Also to show how crazy it was on that day. The interview enhances and proves that the brand is wearing us and I hope people who read these interview find them as interesting as I did. Every page has been thought about and has been developed and changed almost everything has been changed. For once I am really happy with a final piece, I feel this is because I have worked really hard on it and I have enjoyed the subject. Going and interviewing and taking photographs of people was something new but is defiantly something I would like to continue doing and use in my work more. This project aloud me to do two thing I love doing photography and making publications I’m really pleased with the outcome however one thing I wish I did more of and do, I just the scanner more the bank note came out really strong and if I would change one thing about this magazine would be use really rose leaves on the first page I fell that would look really interesting and improve that page. Other than that every page I’m really happy with continuing from this project I aim to send this magazine off to people and companies to see if they are interested in it and see what happens with it and using it in my CV. Overall making this publication has been a pleasure making from the beginning to the end.

This is essay has been a really interesting to look into and research. I found it interesting as it affects everyone in the world, and there are so many different ways you could look at the question. Before starting the essay I always believed the brands wears us but I didn’t understand why. But from writing this essay I have a better understanding why we buy into brands. The essay question is always an exciting topic to talk about and had many good conversations with Amber my tutor on this topic. I think the reason why I enjoyed writing this essay this year is because of the question and how open and interesting it is. Also going to the Supreme drop was a great way to prove that the brand is wearing us, also making the research part more exciting. I feel with this essay I achieved at answering the question and I feel I have put a lot of effort into this, spending hours and hours reading and changing and thinking about what I’m writing. This year COP has been enjoyable and this subject I would like to continue looking into and maybe try and find away to include it in extended practice. Possibly looking into another brand.

The staple bound binding went well and was successful i used copper staples to give it more excitement me than just plan staples. the cutting of the book i did on a machine, it doesn't flick through great this could be due to amount of the pages or the cutting or the binding method. However it doesn't effect it too much. The cover came out really well bold, bright and to the point exactly how i wanted it to be. This hopefully link with Supreme's image as i wanted the cover to reflected that. The bold quote i feel links with Supreme very well.
